Painting the walls of your house is an easy task if you know what tools to use and know the proper techniques
First of all, it is necessary to carry out a series of preliminary tasks: protect floors and furniture, repair the surfaces to be painted, choose the paint you are going to use and protect yourself properly.
Usually a primer coat is applied first and then one or more paint coats, depending on their characteristics.
Good advice is essential to choose the right paint, the application method and the amount required.
To start, you will need a container in which to pour a small amount of paint.
The most suitable is to use a tray-tray, which is available in two sizes for 18 and 22 cm rollers and a MINI size, for the mini rollers, brushes, brushes and stirrers.
You must choose the tools based on the size and difficulty of the surface to be painted
The first thing you should paint is the area closest to door and window moldings, baseboards, and angles. For this you can use a roundbristle brush or a touch brush depending on the size and how accessible the area to be cut is. Radiator flat brushes are available for painting behind radiators, which have a long, angled handle. You can also use a 15mm diameter mini roller with a long frame.
For everything else, that is, most of the wall, you must use rollers and mini rollers of different sizes and diameters and a telescopic extension pole, preferably made of extruded aluminum (more rigid and lighter) and with a fixed head, suitable for the rollers you are going to use.
Let’s see now how to choose the right roller for each surface:
For larger surfaces, you should choose a 50 mm diameter drip-free polyamide paint roller, which due to its special characteristics is perfect for smooth or semi-smooth walls and plastic paints.
If you choose a roller with rounded ends ROUND, you will also avoid marks when painting. If you also choose a professional quality 60 mm diameter paint roller,
you will be able to load more paint on the roller and thus paint more surface in each pass, achieving a more uniform finish.
Another important variable is the length of the roller, usually 12, 18, 22 and 25 cm. By increasing the length, you increase the area you can paint with each pass, but also increase the force required to paint. It is your choice, but the optimal size is usually between 18 and 22 cm.
For small walls or those that are difficult to access, where it is not possible to use a conventional roller, such as the space between the molding of a door and the corner of a wall, you can use a 15 mm diameter mini roller or a 30 mm diameter MIDIUM mini roller. Frames of various sizes are available for use with these rollers.
